2018-08-02: Task 2 (Sri Lanka; India)
In some countries it is illegal for employers to reject applicants due to his/her age.
What do you think? Describe positive or negative development with your own experiences.

范文1:

In developed countries, there are laws against age discrimination to safe guard elder workers seeking employment in workforce. Therefore, employers can not reject any application applied by senior workers because laws does not allow them to do so. There are benefits to both employee and employers of this positive approach.

Firstly, it gives employment opportunities to elder workers and ensures that younger and older staffs are being hired equally in workforce. Companies are required to comply with this law, while recruiting new staff and their job criteria must be based on qualifications, experience and skills, not based on age limit which is unfair. If industries have infringed the law, could face serious consequences. The need of being fair of work industries in job selection process secures the chances for elderly in employment.

Secondly, older worker’s experiences may bring many benefits to employers. Giving job opportunity to senior worker might increase the productivity and save the cost of expensive cost of training. Whereas, the fresh young graduates need extensive trainings and supervision before they can be trusted to work independently. On the other hand, elder employee would take less time to left work by their own. Not even this, they bring diverse knowledge and experience which employer could take advantage of it.

To conclude, age discrimination should not interfere in the process of hiring new employee as it discourages senior workers from applying for job even though those are physical fit and could bring potential benefits to company.

范文2:

Many countries have a maximum age limit prescribed for hiring in a specific job. However, the topic is being hotly debated whether it is wrong to reject a prospective employee on the basis of their age. I think it is a positive as well as a negative development.

On the one hand, it is acceptable not to hire an employee after attaining a specific age. There are ample reasons why companies refrain from an employee who is beyond a specific age due to scientific factors. There are some scientific theories which claim that it is difficult for a human mind to process or store information after attaining a specific age. As such many companies prefer having someone younger to take over a specific role because it is easier to train them and are more open to new challenges. Thus, it is a gamble to go after an old person.

On the other hand, many organizations prefer someone who has a considerable experience in a specific area to cater to the needs of the organization. There are many benefits of having an elder employee than their younger counterparts as with age comes experience. Furthermore, they can utilize their learning and implement their mind in a better manner. Moreover, one should not be discrimination against anyone on any basis. There may be certain areas where the age and exposure plays a pivotal role and in no manner can be substituted.

In conclusion, there should be no bias towards the person on the basis of age. One should take into consideration the pros and cons of hiring a person for a specific post and also consider that age is just a number and many time the experience is important.
