Topic 9 被骗的经历

1. In which circumstances do people tell white lies?
It sounds kind of funny, but I think that65 people tell white lies when they want to be polite. For example,if you don’t like your friend’s outfit, you might tell a white lie and say you do. It’s just to avoid hurting the other person’s feelings. But some people tell white lies to keep their family from being worried66.When my parents call me to see how I am, I tell them I’m good. Even though that’s not always true, I don’t want them to worry.

2. Is telling small lies harmful? Is telling small lies a big deal?
I think I’m an honest person. But sometimes telling small lies isn’t that bad. Sometimes you don’t want to hurt other people’s feelings. So to avoid offending67 them, you might tell a small lie. If it’s just to be polite, I don’t think it matters that much. However, it can add up to bigger problems68. As we all know, to hide a lie, a thousand lies are needed. So you should be honest whenever you can.

3. Do you think is it okay to lie? What is the harm of lying?
I don’t think you should lie in every situation. It might happen sometimes but you should try to avoid it when you can. Lying can hurt people’s feelings if they find out you weren’t telling the truth. Plus, telling lies not only hurts people, but also makes them lose trust in you69. Once people know you’re a liar, they won’t believe you anymore.

4. Which modern techniques can help police solve a crime case?
Nowadays, technology is a lot better than it used to be. Solving crimes is easier because of all the
updated technology that can help the police. For example, officers can use DNA from a crime scene to
track down a criminal70. Another modern technique is public surveillance71. If a robbery takes place in
a store, there is usually security footage72. That way they can find the thief easily.

5. Do you think it’s important to teach children to be honest?
Yes, I believe it’s important to teach children to be honest. There may be some situations where they
want to lie. But they should learn that honesty is the best policy73. If they don’t learn that, they might tell lies to get what they want. That’s a really bad behavior, and it can definitely harm their relationships in the future. Parents need to teach their kids right from wrong74.

6. Some people say that liars are those who have a good memory; what do you think?
I’ve never heard that before. But I guess it makes sense75. If you lie a lot, you have to remember your lies so you don’t get caught. I’ve watched lots of detective dramas. In those shows, liars have to remember all the details. Otherwise they’ll easily get caught. So maybe that saying is true.Personally,I try not to lie, so I don’t have that much experience.
