Topic 19 祖父/母的工作

1. What kinds of jobs are difficult to do in your country?
I believe any job that involves a lot of risk165 is difficult. A good example is a police officer or a
firefighter. Those jobs involve danger almost every day. For those kinds of jobs, you have to be brave
and physically fit166. It’s definitely not easy. Some difficult jobs also involve a lot of intelligence. For example, doctors and scientists must be very smart. Those jobs require years of study and training.

2. Do you think difficult jobs are more interesting than easy jobs?
Yes, I think so. Difficult jobs might be riskier. But they’re more interesting because of it. For example, being a police officer is more exciting than being a salesperson. Police officers get to help keep the community safe. They investigate cases167 and do interesting kinds of work. Being a scientist would be more interesting as well. They get to make all kinds of new discoveries168.

3. Do difficult jobs offer high wages?
I hope they do. If you’re doing hard work, you should get good wages169. I think that is usually true for difficult jobs. For instance, police officers and firefighters are paid well. They technically170 work for the government. So I think that means they have high salaries. Doctors and scientists usually get paid well as well, at least to my knowledge171. That makes difficult jobs worth doing.

4. Do you think robots would replace human workers in the future?
I suppose that they can replace some human workers. But I don’t think robots will replace all human workers. It would be expensive to make all those robot workers. Also, there are lots of jobs that robots can’t do. For instance, they can’t be therapists172, police officers, or artists. Robots can’t create and control things like humans do. So I don’t think we should worry about robots stealing our jobs.

5. What kinds of jobs cannot be replaced by robots? What kinds of jobs can be replaced by robots?
Robots can do lots of jobs. For example, they can work in manufacturing. That’s already happened in some factories. They can also do jobs like selling things or serving people. But they can’t replace humans in arts-based jobs173. Robots can’t really write books, make movies, or design things as well as people. Honestly, I hope robots don’t take over all jobs174. It would make the future pretty bleak175.

6. Do you think it would be beneficial to provide training to employees?
Yes, I believe it’s beneficial to train employees. Every company has expectations for176 their employees.By training their employees, they make sure there’s good communication and understanding between them and the company. The company can explain how they want their employees to behave at work.Without training, employees might act in ways the company doesn’t like. That could cause confusion177.It would probably make the company look bad.
