Topic 33 想去远方的旅行
1. Where do Chinese people like to travel to?
In my opinion, lots of people in China, including me and my family, really love going on vacation at seaside resorts287 during their holidays. People love to enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries at the beach. That’s always a good way for us to wind down. Plus, many Chinese people, especially the elderly, also prefer to travel to historical attractions. Places like the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven288 are usually popular tourist attractions.
2. What kinds of activities do people like to do for holidays?
Well, I suppose it depends on what type of people you’re talking about. Some introverted people289 might like to just stay at home and enjoy reading, listening to music, or even having a nap290. But more extroverted people probably like travelling far from their home and doing some special activities like going skiing or camping. I think in general, people like doing something that can help them get away from the hustle and bustle of the working day291, whether that’s something calm or exciting.
3. Why do some people prefer to stay at home during holidays?
It seems to me that some people prefer staying at home during holidays because they’re more introverted. They like being in a familiar environment that can make them feel comfortable. They wouldn’t want to travel somewhere new during the holidays because a strange place may make them feel stressed. Besides, sometimes people don’t like going out just because they think travelling is too hectic292 during the holiday season. After all, during a public holiday, there are tourists everywhere. It can be very inconvenient to find a parking spot or even a washroom.
4. What do you think about young people having a gap year before they enter university?
I think having a gap year can be very helpful for some young people before they enter university. Some of them have no idea about what they want to do with their lives. If they go to university and choose a major that they aren’t interested in, that will be a waste of time and money. So it’s better to take a gap year. That way, they have time to find out the right major for them.
5. Do people in China have enough holidays? Do people want more holidays?
Um…definitely no. I mean, who doesn’t want more holidays? Although there are technically enough holidays for people in China, I believe they would appreciate some more. Nowadays, our lives are filled with work all the time; everyone needs time to just kick back and relax, which can be hard to do even when on holiday. I suppose that if we had more time off293, it could really help us be more productive294 at work and school.
