Topic 36 交通工具坏掉的经历
1. What kind of public transportation is popular in China?
I think buses and subway trains are very popular in China, especially in big cities. They are the best ways for you to get around the city. And the fare317 for buses and subway trains is also very affordable.Plus, the bus and subway networks usually cover the whole urban area. If you want to travel across the city, you might only have to take one or two transfers318.
2. What are the problems caused by increasing vehicles?
There are definitely lots of problems caused by an increasing amount of vehicles. The first one I can think of is traffic congestion319. It’s annoying when you’re on your way to work and traffic makes you late. A lot of vehicles also means a lot of pollution. The fumes320 aren’t good for the environment at all.
3. What do you think needs to be improved in public transport?
I suppose that public transportation needs to improve its speed. Even in big cities, you have to wait for a long time if your bus is late. So people should work on improving the system to avoid delays321. It’s really annoying when you have to just sit around322 waiting for a bus or a subway. It would also be really nice if buses and subways could come around more often.
4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of public transport? (也可能换种表述问 private transport 的优缺点,可以把内容反过来说)
One big advantage is the cost. It’s usually cheaper to take public transportation compared to driving your own car. Plus, it cuts down on carbon emissions323, so it’s also more environmentally friendly than private transportation. But a disadvantage is that public transportation can take way longer. And you have to share the space with other people. They can be rude sometimes.
5. Who takes public transportation more often, young people or old people?
I think that young people take public transportation more often. For one, not all young people have a license. Plus, those who do have licenses might not have their own vehicle. So they have to use public transport. As for old people, they are often worried about traffic safety324 and don’t like going too far from their home. So they prefer walking over public transportation.
6. How do you think the subway system will develop in the future?
I don’t see it changing that much, since the design has been working pretty well so far. If anything325,I think that subways will just become faster and more tech-friendly. For example, some subway systems could have Wi-Fi available all the time. Maybe they could also add outlets326 for people to charge their devices in the future.
