2020年1-4月 雅思口语 Part 1 Topic 9 笔 Pen&Pencil (new)

  1. Do you usually use pen or pencil?
I am more accustomed to using a pen. I majored in translation and interpretation, which requires a lot of notetaking, especially in terms of interpretation. With a pen, I can write quickly and clearly, which is not the case with a pencil.
  2. Which do you use more often? Pen or pencil?
Compared with pencil, pen is my everyday writing tool. All official examinations in China require to write the answers with black pen. Using a pencil in an exam is against the rule and you may fail the exam because of it. So I use a pen more often just to train myself to be comfortable with using pens.
  3. When was the last time you bought a pen or pencil?
It was a long time ago when I was still a high school student. Back in senior high, my school has a total ban on any digital devices like smartphones and computers. We all did homework with a pen. Since college, I prefer to do my homework on the computer rather than write my answers on a paper.
  4. What do you think if someone gives you a pen or pencil as a present?
I will be very pleased to be given a pen as a present. In fact, I once bought a Lamy pen for my bestie as her birthday gift. Chinese people pay special attention to handwriting because we have a rich, long history of calligraphy. Therefore, I think it is nice to get a pen and I will see it as a reminder of the good, old days when everyone tries to improve their handwriting instead of typing on a PC.
