What languages can you speak?
Mandarin is my mother tongue. I’ve always lived in China, and my home region is pretty monolingual. Besides, I have learned English as a second language for five years, and sometimes I use English to communicate with friends and family.
Do you think it’s difficult to learn a new language?
I think that picking up a second language gets more difficult with age. You know, languages are constructed in terms of their own rules and even those closely related have much in common but also great variation in grammar and spelling. Speaking one is no guarantee of understanding another.
Will you learn other languages in the future?
I aspire to be a polyglot in the future, and Tm already learning both English and Mandarin. I would love to learn Korean entirely in the future so that someday I would be able to watch my favorite dramas without following the stories by reading subtitles.
