Why do some people get lost more easily than others?
Well, certain people have a terrible sense of direction. I kind of believe the gender stereotype about men being good with directions and women easily getting lost. The usual explanation is that men tend to navigate by generating two-dimensional maps in their head, while women tend to navigate by routes and landmarks.
Do you think it is important to be able to read a map?
Although nowadays people tend to use smartphone map to get the routine, map reading and map drawing are important skills to learn in geography. Maps help us to know distances so that we know how far away one thing is from another. We need to be able to estimate distances on maps because all maps show the earth or regions within it as a much smaller size than their real size. To do this we need to be able to read the scale on a map.
Do you think is it important to do some preparation before you travel to new places?
Yes, being prepared to travel will make our time in-country a more successful experience, reduce potential risks, and increase the positive impact we make on our host community. Before we decide on a destination, program, or volunteer project, ifs a great idea to set goals and achievements to work toward throughout our journey. It may seem silly, but ifs a very important step in making early travel preparations in order to guarantee the success of our time abroad!
How can people find their way when they are lost?
Obviously, most people don’t plan on getting lost. But there are a few steps they can take when heading out on an adventure. For example, people can use a smartphone to check the google map, or call the police, or ask someone for help.
