What kinds of things do people forget easily?
Usually people might forget small detailed things, especially those everyday things. For example, we would sometimes forget one or two items when we go to do grocery shopping, or forget to get the washed clothes out of the washer. Another kind of things people forget easily are things that’s not of their own. Those distant things and details can easily slip their mind because they are not relevant to them, that they have nothing to do with them.
What kinds of people are more forgetful?
That’s a tough question. I would assume that old people sometimes are more forgetful. It is more about their biological building degrading as they get old. Also, very young kids might also be forgetful because they are just not old enough to learn to focus on important things to remember. Their minds also run fast because everything around them are interesting and fresh to them, so sometimes they would just put some agenda at the back of their minds.
How can people improve their memory?
I believe that you can actually train your memory to some extent. You can always start from writing things down, and then try to think of things on the list and then check the list to make sure you get them right. What you can also do is to try to stay focus on one thing at a time. When focusing on something for a rather long time, you tend to remember it better and less likely to forget it. I have also heard of a method where you associate something important with a picture or the context of the matter, and then remember them together. I think that would also work.
What do you think of people using calendars to remind themselves of things?
I actually think it is a very efficient way of managing one‘s schedule. It is true that you may be able to remember all your schedules, but writing them down on calendars doesn’t hurt and it makes sure that you never forget them. Then, you can spare your brain power to do some actual creative thinking. Writing it down sometimes seem dumb and only people who forget things would need it, but on the contrary, a lot of people who never forget stuffs would still prefer writing it down on paper. I think the practice itself would enhance the memory.
