2018-05-12: Task 2 (Canada)
Some countries have prisons for prisoners. Other think education is the best way to make people not commit crimes. To what extent do you agree.
范文1:
The topic of whether prison is the most effective way to solve the problem of crime is of concern for many people. Some people believe that keeping all criminals in jail cab reduce crime rate while others think education can do a better job. As for me, I prefer the latter.
As a form of punishment, prison sentence is reasonable in some extend. Firstly, it has a deterrent effect on potential offenders. As imprisonment is considered as a series punishment, most of the people do want to be forced to stay in jail because of breaking the law, therefore, they are dissuaded from criminal acts due to fear of the consequence. Secondly, keeping all recidivists away from the society can effectively prevent them from committing more crimes. There might be a small part of prisoners did not realize their faults and re-commit crime after leaving the prisons. In order to reduce the likelihood of repeated offense, locking up serious law breakers for a longer period can stop them from causing harm to the general public, therefore removing a threat from society.
However, there are some others suggest that it is better to educate the criminals. To start with, it allows offenders to be more confident when they re-enter into their normal lives. It is found that some of the lawbreakers violated the law because they could not get a job due to lack of skills or experience. If they are instructed and trained with a particular technique or skill, they are more likely to be hired by a company or industry, providing a chance to start their lives all over again. Besides, education will let offenders feel accepted even though they have made mistakes. Compared with the method of simply confining all lawbreakers, education can make them aware of the mistakes without being anti-social inmates, thereby rehabilitating them become a good civilian.
To sum up, we cannot deny the effect of imprison as it certainly reduce the crime rate. However, education can make criminals feel forgiven and accepted, which offers them a chance to compensate their faults.
范文2:
Prison is the best place where dangerous criminals and terrorist where jailed. In accord with the statement that if proper education given to criminal they will not commit crime in the future. I completely disagree with the statement that the education only will not prevent again to become criminals.
Apparently, education can change their mind if moral; ethics and disciplinary subject are taught to the criminal. Government should take arrangement for the criminal to study in jail so that they can earn a degree in the jail. For example, in Indian jail criminals are motivated to study in their desired and receive certificate for their graduation. Though, it changes the criminal to be a normal person but not completely for some extent.
On the other hand, mental and psychological treatment is necessary for their treatment. They must be given training in their field of interest to acquire job and other benefits which make them more responsible to prevent them to becoming criminals. Moreover, yoga and meditation make them fit for both mentally and physically. They have to be monitored and given psychological treatment according to their mental disability. They have to teach about well being, health, dynamism, self-respect and prosperity.
In a nutshell, criminals also a human being they have to treated for their mental and physical illness. Education only not averts to become criminal they have to be steadily monitored and treated for psychological and other illness. Altogether, education and treatment will help to stop some extent of criminals.
