During the summers I work at a Starbucks in my local town as a barista (咖啡吧员）.There is a man I work with named Alex and I really admire him for his linguistic skills (语言技能）. Alex was bom and raised in Beijing but he has always been very fond of British culture. Alex also wanted to study in the UK, so he studied the English language very hard. I was always very impressed with Alex when foreign people would come into the cafe and he would speak English with them. He would always speak with such confidence and his English was almost fluent. Sometimes he even had such good conversations (人际交往）with customers that they became friends outside of work. Alex?s hard work paid off in the end as next year he is moving to Britain to study in the city of London.

I think he speaks English so well because of the dedication (奉献）and effort he puts into learning the language. Alex tells me that he practices English every evening, doing speaking tests and writing out sentences in English. Sometimes Alex can spend up to three hours a night studying the English language. On top of this he tries to surround himself with English culture. Alex is always listening to English music and watches a lot of films in English. Because of this he is always encountering (遇到，遭遇）the English language, this is the reason I think he speaks this foreign language so well. Learning anew language takes a lot of time and dedication so it is important to keep learning.
