I have listened to thousands of songs in my life, and a sentence that I remember well is ‘Happy new year; give me a red packet’, and it’s from a song about Chinese New Year called ‘Spring Festival.

I got to know it as I listened to lots of songs about the Chinese New Year when I was a kid. And this song was repeatedly played everywhere; that’s why it is so impressive to me.

I like it a lot as it reminds me of the happiness in Chinese New Year and my lovely childhood. When the festival comes, I would get my piggy bank ready to receive red packets, and I used to say that sentence to adults. Because it’s a tradition that adults with income will give red packets to the children. These red packets are filled with new money and symbolize good wishes and luck to the new year. I have to say that this sentence helped me get lots of lucky money from the adult when I was a kid. By the way; the importance of the red packets isn’t the cash inside. It’s the envelope itself. The red color is associated with energy happiness, and good luck. The process of exchanging red packets are always full of fun and love. Now I am too old to say that sentence to others, but I still miss the time a lot.
