Describe the time when you first talked in a foreign language

I have learned a few foreign languages, such as English and Italian. Today I would love to share the story of when I first talked in Italian.

In the summer two years ago, I traveled to Italy where most people didn’t speak English well, so I had a hard time communicating with them. One day I went to an Italian restaurant for lunch with my best friend Jane. The customer service staff didn’t speak English at all, and to make matters worse, my phone was out of battery so I couldn’t communicate with them using the Google translator.

But luckily I knew some basic Italian sentences and understood Italian pronunciation rules. Hence I tried to order the dishes, including the main course, wine, desserts, in Italian. Besides, I also appreciated their services by saying some nice words in Italian, and the customer service was happy.

I believe that I made some grammar and pronunciation mistakes, as I was not familiar with Italian. However; I also felt a great sense of achievement as it’s the very first time I speak in Italian. Besides, It’s a pleasing experience to communicate with Italian native speakers as the customer service staff were charming. I was also happy about the dishes I ordered, all of them were delicious.
