What’s the standard of being polite?

I think different cultures have different standards and definitions of politeness. Generally speaking, being polite means being aware of and respecting the feelings of other people, and the goal of politeness is to refrain oneself from behaving in an offensive way so as not to offend others. The basic golden rule of politeness is really to remember saying phrases such as “please” and ££thank you” in daily conversations and treat people with respect and common courtesy.

What behavior would be regarded as impolite?

Impolite behavior means you have been rude to someone by violating accepted standards of courteous behavior within a culture. What is considered impolite depends on what country you are living in and your culture. In my opinion, behaviors such as being disrespectful to others, interrupting ongoing conversations, invading other people’s personal space, and cursing in public are considered impolite by most people.

Who are more polite? People from cities or those from the countryside?

The pace of life in a big city is different from a small town. When it seems that city-folk consider pleasantries to be a waste of time, or don’t respond warmly to them, it’s absolutely not that they don’t value being nice or friendly, it’s that, in this context, they are a waste of time (at least, more often than in less dense non-urban areas). You don’t know what you’re interrupting when you stop someone.

What do you think makes people polite?

I think politeness is closely related to one’s education and social relations. The social and cultural rules that people are taught to follow at a young age help them understand what behaviors are considered appropriate and polite in their culture and the benefits of treating others with common courtesy. When people enter school and later the workplace, they see that when they are polite to others, they are usually treated with the same level of respect and friendliness, and they are able to make a good impression on others.
