1. How do people usually choose gifts?

People usually choose their gifts based on the relationship between the gift giver and the gift receiver, they also choose their gifts based on the reason and occasion for giving a gift. So for example, a person may by a watch for their father’s birthday but would be more likely to buy a beautiful necklace for their mother’s birthday. This is because we choose different gifts for our mothers and our fathers. There is also a great difference between what one would give as an anniversary gift and one would give as a retirement gift.

2. Why do some people find it hard to choose gifts?

Some people find it difficult to choose gifts because there is often a lot of pressure to give a good gift. Gifts are normally given on special occasions and, therefore, it is important that we get a good gift and one that the person receiving the gift will love. This causes a lot of pressure and can fill a person with anxiety because they are scared they will give a bad gift. We don’t want to upset someone with a bad gift and this can make the choice a difficult one.

3. Do you think useful gifts are always more suitable than those useless ones?

I think that useless gifts can often be suitable. Just because a gift is useless does not mean it cannot be significant or important. Some people would believe that a bouquet of flowers or a beautiful neckless are useless gifts, however, they can bring a lot of joy and happiness to the person that receives them. Therefore, they are just as suitable as useful gifts. Useless gifts can have huge sentimental value which is very important to people.

4. Do people give the same gifts as they did in the past?

I believe that the types of gifts people give nowadays are changing those that we used to give in the past. It used to be that we would give very traditional gifts such as jewellery for women or expensive pens for men. However, nowadays people often try to be fess materialistic with the gifts that they give people. It is common now more unconventional gifts which are unique experiences. This can be anything from taking a friend oit to a meal at a fancy restaurant or taking a friend skydiving.
