- Do people in your country set goals?
I would say that people in my country set goals, as this is a good way to be successful and we are a determined people. In China we often set goals because it motivates us to achieve more and become more successful people. For example, setting the goal “I am going to be fluent in English by 20229 is a great way to motivate yourself to work hard. Without goals it is easy to become despondent about tasks we have to complete.
- Do people usually set long-term goals or short-term ones?
I believe that people normally set long-term goals, but these can involve short term goals within them. Long term goals are more common as people like to set big and grand (大)goals which will make them feel very proud when they are achieved. But this can often take a long time, so these goals are long term, and it is good to use short term goals to keep oneself motivated. For example, it may be your goal to learn English in two years, but also to learn 30 words every week.
- Why is setting goals important in the workplace?
Setting goals is important in the workplace because it keeps employees motivated and fills them with a sense of accomplishment. Work is not always easy, and people need things to strive towards in order to keep them energetic and motivated. So, goals, such as to earn a promotion or a pay rise, are a good way for people to stay positive about their work. Furthermore, when employees realise these goals it will fill them with a great sense of achievement which shall in turn motivate them to work harder.
- What is the difference between goals set by old people and young people?
I believe that the difference between goals set by old people and young people is that young people tend to set far more ambitious (雄心勃勃的)and grand goals than older people. Young people are hopeful and full of energy and therefore set themselves impressive goals such as “visiting 5 new countries in the next 5 years/ In contrast, old people are often more comfortable with the lives they have and therefore set smaller goals that are easy to manage.
